Description: |
Finished watercolor shore scene on wove paper, signed in pencil, inscribed verso with the title and date. Except for the sky, which is clearly done in Laboureur's manner, the scene is reminiscent of some by Harpignies. Noirmoutier is an island off the Atlantic coast of France in the Vendée. It is likely that Labouruer did the drawing while visiting Lepère, who lived not far away in St.-Jean-de-Monts. |
