The sea monster is identified as a walfisch (whale), which it does not resemble. The text deals with Norway and the area. Münster's Cosmographia, the earliest German description of the world was the most popular book of the 16th century, going into about 100 editions. This leaf would appear to be from the German edition of 1598. |
