Description: Fine impression in brown-black ink on Hallines laid paper with full margins. The title refers to fishing near a palm tree covered island in the Uvea or Wallis Islands in the Pacific Ocean, north of the Tonga Islands and northeast of the Fiji Islands. The etching was made after a drawing by Meryon done in 1845 while he was a sailor on a journey to New Zealand. It was exhibited at the Salon of 1864 and the plate has been destroyed. Meryon's etchings of the South Pacific are among the earliest western works of art representing that subject.
