Description: |
The engraved title page and six etchings of various sizes (the dimensions given are of the largest plate) from the set of 24. Generally fine impressions on thick laid paper with narrow margins, one plate partially trimmed inside the platemark at the right; one plate with a stain and tiny hole at the lower right corner. The images are genre peasant country scenes and one a seated old peasant and a study of his head. Le Bas was an immensely prolific and expert engraver of the paintings and drawings of other artists; his original work occupies a small portion of his output and is rather scarce but shows inventiveness and skill. |
