Description: |
Fine impression on wove paper with full margins; the paper somewhat dusty in the margins. Flameng's drawing from life is clearly the most powerful portrait of the mad Meryon. Its reproduction by heliogravure is aesthetically satisfying, and the only form other than the original drawing in which the image exists, but it is not an original print. The portrait was drawn at Meryon's home. The next morning he was taken to the insane asylum at Charenton. |
