A superb proof impression, undescribed by Chaloner Smith, and with scratches and tone showing in the plate margin, on laid paper with narrow margins on three sides, cut just inside the platemark at the base; two tiny surface losses in the blank area of the plate margin. In the Halsey sale catalog, the plate (No. 478) is listed as by MacArdell after Cotes, but this cannot be as the dimensions are different and this plate has the added sprigs of flowers on the dress. The subject is seen half-length in an oval, wearing a feathered hat, a low-cut dress and a lace neckpiece. |
