From the signature, the artist's name might equally well be Zug, but we can find nothing about him in either event. This is a curious little pencil sketch of a young violinist obviously struggling with the difficulties of a concerto, the fingering hand up around fifth position with the fingers stretched for all they are worth. Verso, another satirical sketch of a very large bass fiddle being played, with difficulty, by four men. The sheet is drum mounted to a French mat and signed both sides. Music catalog #472. |
