Description: |
Finished and detailed drawing on papier-calque, incised for transfer, dated and signed, but the lower edge of the sheet has been unevenly cut, removing a part of the signature. There are a few tiny holes, the result of either the ink or the pen point digging through the thin paper. The image shows the interior court of a farm with buildings, trees and an old well. It is crammed with objects (ladders, benches brooms, wagons, etc.) but momentarily uninhabited by sentient life. Matifas studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts of Amiens and worked around Paris and in the Aisne. His paintings are in the museums of Abbeville, Amiens and Chartres. |
