Description: |
Fine impression on heavy, tan wove paper with good margins, signed and numbered in pencil from the edition of 80. Borel is seen seated and about half-length, his hands clasped, in profile and looking to the right. Behind him, in a lighter tone and with a somewhat ghostly quality, are four of his sculptural figures on a raised ledge. The heavy, slashing shading on Borel's figure is reminiscent of Zorn, but the face is more meticulously done, with cross-hatching and fine dot-and-dash work. The sculptor's name is etched large in the plate; Roux's is evident only in the pencil signature. A fine and imaginative portrait. |
