Cleopatra

Bartsch 9, Hollstein 44 iii/iii. Fine, strong impression on thin laid paper with part of an indecipherable watermark, trimmed just inside the plate mark but with a narrow white border outside the borderline and the full text below; a small, pale brown stain on the arm and very pale grey splotches (from wiping?) in some of the white areas. Muller was among the most mannerist of the Northern Mannerist engravers and the contorted shapes and virtuosic hatchings here are typical of his work. Most of his prints are after designs by others, but this one is apparently of his own invention. Rare.
