Venus en Reflexion

Tool-work engraving, printed in colors, 347 x 281 mm., Portalis & Béraldi 14 i/ii, LeBlanc 7. Sold as a pair with the following number ($13,500. for the pair). Very fine proof impression before any letters on white laid paper trimmed just inside the platemark but with ample white space around the oval subject and the full (here blank) title area; a few filled nicks at the edges of the sheets, far from the image, and a very pale trace of discoloration from an old oval mat Both after Charlier, the prints are considered pendants and sold here as a pair. They are among the masterpieces of French 18th-century printmaking and they are extremely rare, particularly in proofs.
