Engravings, two from a set of six, Bartsch XV-176-6 and 11, 270 X 118 mm. Fine, early impressions on thin laid paper trimmed slightly unevenly along the plate mark, the images complete. The British Museum impressions shown in The Illustrated Bartsch are lacking the top shaded panels (about 7 mm.) which are present here. Although Bartsch doubted that Bonasone himself engraved the plates, the British Museum, which owns three plates of the set, including these two, accepts them as fully Bonasone’s work. The prints are rare. The architectural purpose of such sculptures was as a representational substitute for columns. Sold as a pair.
