The Egyptians Drowning in the Red Sea
Etching and engraving, from a set of Biblical Battles, 198 x 281 mm., Bartsch 243. A good, early impression, with plate tone, on thick laid paper with thread margins; dry printing in one small area and some old glue and stains verso. Exodus 14: "And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them. But the children of Israel walked upon dry land. Thus the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians." Actually, the print combines two events: the Egyptians drowning and the song of praise by Moses and the Israelites after that event (Exodus 15).
