Etching, and drypoint, 1913, 105 x 202 mm.
A fine, rich impression with strong plate tone on old laid paper with small but full margins, signed and dated in pencil. Jones was born in Baltimore and studied painting with Boulanger and Lefebvre in Paris. Of what other training he had, what he might have seen and what other prints he might have made, we have no idea. This one is here because it perfectly exemplifies Whistler's theory of drawing, to begin at the center of interest and let the drawing grow outwards from it. In spite of the print's heavy facture, there is a lot of Whistler's spirit here.
