Falconing Party Setting Out from a Gothic Castle
Lithograph in black and brown with white heightening, 1811, 390 x 375 mm. Domenico was a member of a large family of artists, stretching over four centuries, of painters, printmakers, architects and stage designers. Sometimes the four enthusiasms were concentrated in one man, and Domenico was such a one. As a printmaker, he produced both etchings and lithographs, but the focus of them was invariably architecture and most often examples of medieval architecture in Germany. The structure here is the old Schlosshof zu Füssen, which existed in that form until at least 1923, according to a postcard photograph. It has since been somewhat Disneyized. The beautifully drawn scene is enlivened by the setting out for the hunt. Fine impression on white wove paper with good margins.
