Crampton, The Flutist

The Flutist

Original drawing in pen and brown ink over pencil, 203 x 121 mm. A fine, full-length caricature study on wove paper, unsigned but completely characteristic. Crampton, who was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, was a professional diplomat, at one time ambassador to the United States. He also, however, seems to have been a fairly prolific draughtsman, if only as an amateur, with a personal style and flair. One can look far for a more spirited depiction of a flutist.
