"Oxenstierna"
Etching, 1909, 247 x 177 mm., Asplund 220 ii/ii, Hjert & Hjert141 ii/ii. Very fine, rich impression on laid paper watermarked with a large Fortuna, with full margins, signed in pencil. Whatever one may think of Zorn’s somewhat excessively healthy nudes, he was undoubtedly a fine portraitist, frequently capturing an edge of nervous excitability in his subjects that brings them alive. This portrait is of Mrs. Aurore Klintberg, née Oxenstierna, descendant of an ancient, noble Swedish family whose origins are traceable to the late 13th century. The Oxenstierna coat of arms is sketched at the upper right.
