The Violinist Emil Telmányi

Lithograph, 1915, 675 x 425 mm. A fine impression on thin, brown wove paper, laid down to board, signed in pencil; small tears and losses near the edges. Hohlenberg was a Danish painter and occasional print maker. Telmányi (1890-1988) was a Hungarian-born violin virtuoso who settled in Copenhagen and married the daughter of the composer Carl Nielsen. He was a major advocate for Nielsen’s music, conducting the premier performance of the Symphony No. 5 as well as performing and recording the violin music. Considering its size and the paper on which it was printed, it is highly unlikely that many impressions of this impressive print have survived.
