Thames Warehouses
Etching and drypoint, 1859, from 16 Etchings of the Thames, 75 x 201 mm., Kennedy 38 ii/ii, MacDonald 46 v/v (before cancellation). Fine, sharp impression with light plate tone on thin, laid japan paper with good margins; a piece of the upper right corner margin lacking; some time toning and old fingerprint smudging in the margins. The accent here is purely on the horizontals leading to a depiction of incredible depth. The horizontal placement of the boats in the foreground emphasizes this and, in this upstream view, points to the dome of St. Paul’s Cathedral in the far distance.
