Pen and black ink on wove paper, tipped down to blue paper, 80 x 145 mm. This is the original drawing in reverse for the etching published in the Comic-Almanack of 1842. An impression of the etching, trimmed to the subject and mounted also on blue paper accompanies the drawing. Trimolet is a forgotten name as a print maker, partially because he died so young and partially because most of his work was published in books and periodicals. Béraldi thought that he had great talent and regretted that his short and difficult life never gave him the chance to make it known. If he is remembered at all today it is as the brother-in-law of Charles Daubigny for several of whose etchings Trimolet drew the figures. But, on the evidence here, an unhappy life obviously did not stifle his sense of humor. Sold as a pair.
