L'Homme Qui Court

L'Homme Qui Court Après la Fortune et Celui Qui l'Attend dans Son Lit (The Man Who Hastens After Fortune and the One Who Waits for Her in His Bed) from the Fables of La Fontaine

Etching and drypoint, 1886, 400 x 260 mm., Béraldi 799 v/v, B. N. Inv. 423. Superb impression of the final state with the publication line and the publisher's blind stamp, on imperial japon with full margins, signed in pencil. Fortune, on her winged wheel, is in the background pursued by one man. The other sleeps in his bed at the left and a more quiescent Fortune contemplates her decision.
