Cavalry Battle
Red chalk, 180 x 293 mm., Provenance: Auguste Schoy (Lugt 64); Baron Heinrich von Geymuller (L. 1133). Fluent and completely typical sketch by Weyer, the figural style and poses corresponding to known drawings by him in Berlin and elsewhere and the drawing of horses quite distinctive. The representation is full of action enhanced by the nervous, rapid line. Drawn in red chalk on laid paper, the corners clipped (no subject loss), laid down. In addition to the collectors' marks, there is a small, pasted-on numbering that says R.63 and a pencil notation on the backing that says, in French, that the sheet was bought in Amsterdam in 1885(?).
