Dans les Coulisses: “L’Africaine,” Act I
Etching, 1881, from Le Nouvel Opéra, 238 x 158 mm., Béraldi 188-23. A most unusual view (but almost all of Renouard’s views are unusual) of the grand opera by Giacomo Meyerbeer (1791-1864), seen from the wings with a bit of eye contact from the stage. Superb impression on laid paper with large margins, signed and inscribed in pencil.
