Original drawing (for reproduction) in black and red-brown chalk over pencil on imitation japan paper, ca. 1945, 200 x 290 mm., signed in pencil. Finished drawing for reproduction, with framing lines (drawing size: 158 x 215 mm.). The drawing was reproduced in a children's book called The Little Fellow, by Marguerite Henry with illustrations by Diana Thorne, in 1945. A Xerox of the cover and page are included. Thorne was a noted and exceedingly popular illustrator in both books and magazines, specializing in images of dogs, cats and horses and, to a lesser extent, an etcher. But it is not often that one gets to match up a sketch or drawing with its actual published image. The generic “bug” is used here for, without reading the book, it is not obvious exactly what the insect is. But probably a bee
