La Troupe de Mademoiselle Eglantine

Color lithograph poster, 1896, Delteil 361, Adhèmar 198, Wittrock P-21 C, 621 x 790 mm. Fine impression with strong colors (the yellow not quite brilliant) on thin, brownish wove paper backed with, and with a small margin of, thin japan paper; a few tiny losses made up at the edges of the sheet and minor wrinkles. In all, in excellent condition for such a large and delicate print. The image shows the troupe in performance at a London theater, doing a modified can-can. The print was commissioned from Lautrec by Jane Avril, who is pictured as the left-most figure, the others being Cléopatre, Gazelle and Mlle. Eglantine herself. Wittrock’s C edition is the only one with text, A & B being extremely rare proofs before letters, with and without remarque, and D the remarque alone without the poster image.
