Brumes du Matin (Mists of Morning)
Etching and drypoint, 1882, 250 x 347 mm., Béraldi 779 undescribed state after xi/xi, B. N. 395 undescribed state before vi/vi. Very fine impression from the edition of 100 published by Keppel around 1900, with the etched "B" in the lower left margin, on MBM laid paper with small margins, signed in pencil. The apparent contradiction of states is due to the B. N. cataloguer not noticing that Béraldi's listing of states, ending at five on the first page, continues overleaf to eleven described states. The Keppel edition, however, is not the last state, as the B. N. reports a later state from the cut down plate, which they list as vi/vi but should correctly be xiii/xiii, the Keppel edition being state twelve. All the drawn additions shown in the preceding number have here been incorporated into the print itself and the result, if more complete, is hardly less subtle than the first state.
