Triumphal Procession of Children
Engraving, 22 x 132 mm., Bartsch 237, Pauli 242 only state, ex collection: Freiherr von Lanna (Lugt 2773), this impression apparently cited in Hollstein. A generally very good impression, printed darker on the left and getting quite light toward the right, on laid paper, showing an inky platemark in places, elsewhere trimmed on or just within the platemark. Comparison with the very dark impression reproduced in The Illustrated Bartsch makes one pause because Lanna usually had the best available impressions of everything. But his mark is on the verso twice (in brown and in blue). The children here are enacting a classical triumph with one of their number wreathed and playing Bacchus in the chariot.
