A Study by Lamplight

Lithograph, 1890-94, 188 x 157 mm., Roussel & Mackay L.1; Hausberg 169, total printing of about 30. Roussel took up lithography around 1890, well after Whistler, but he generally used the same transfer method and employed the same printer (Thomas Way) as the master. The model here is Hetty Pettigrew, the subject of all Roussel's figural lithographs and the model also for several of Whistler's. Hausberg mentions that very few impressions of Roussel's lithographs were signed in pencil.
