Standing Male Nude with a Staff
Pen and brown ink and watercolor on wove paper, 120 x 85 mm., signed in ink with his monogram..
Portraying an unknown mythological figure, this signed sketch was cut from a larger sheet, perhaps a letter, as there are traces of writing at the right edge of the paper. Famous for his caricatures, Cruikshank was also a painter and a prolific illustrator of books and magazines and one of the best draughtsmen of his time in England.
