Etching, 1928, 280 x 175 mm., Giardina 133 iii/iii. Superb impression with plate tone on laid paper with full margins, signed in pencil from an edition of 90. Eby, whose name is inextricably associated with images of World War I on the one hand, and snowy scenes in Connecticut on the other, was actually born in Tokyo, Japan, of Canadian missionary parents. The scene here is pure New England: snow covered rolling hills, bare trees, grey looming sky, cold, the hunter and his dog with a catch of rabbits heading home to one of those wooden Connecticut houses, half-buried in snow, shown in other Eby etchings. Beautiful print.
