Lithograph, 1881, Hédiard 37 ii/ii, 272 x 418 mm. Very fine impression on tan laid paper with large margins, signed in pencil and from the edition of only 25 (there were 7 or 8 proofs of the first state and no later edition); a paper defect in the lower margin not affecting the image or letters. Besides being an exquisite painter of flowers, Fantin was one of the masters of lithography, here intentionally using the texture of the laid transfer paper and later scraping of the stone to achieve impressionist effects of light and shade. A large, rare print seldom seen on the market.
