Seconda Scena: Selva di Diana

Etching from Le Nozze degli Dei, 1637, 202 x 288 mm., De Vesme/Massar 920. Very fine, sharp impression on laid paper trimmed to the edge of the subject but with the full text below; flattened vertical center fold and a tiny bit of the upper left corner lost. Le Nozze degli Dei (The Wedding of the Gods) was an opera by Marco da Gagliano (and four other unnamed composers), first performed in the open-air theater of the Palazzo Pitti in Florence on July 8, 1637. Della Bella did a set of six magnificent etchings of scenes from the opera of which this is one. We also have two others from the set; please inquire.
