The Church of St. Philip Neri, Naples

Etching & engraving, ca. 1777-84, Béraldi N.D., 255 x 380 mm. Fine impression on laid paper with small margins; flattened printer’s crease and the paper somewhat dusty. More than just a view of the church, the print actually shows the funeral cortege of an unidentified but obviously very important personage with people watching from the balconies of nearby houses as well as from the street. The complicated authorship of the print is explained as follows: Desprez did the drawing, Duplessis-Bertaux did the etching, and Daudet finished the print in engraving.
