Satyr and Nymph Embracing; Design for the Center of a Sundial
Engraving, apparently uncatalogued, 35 mm. diameter. Very good, clear impression of this tiny print, which shows the main figures, along with two putti, in a vast and detailed landscape, on laid paper trimmed to the circular border, in places just within; some brown stains, possibly from rust. The Latin motto, translated as “Our days on earth are like an hour,” is a traditional phrase to ornament a sundial. Not in the British Museum and presumably quite rare.
