Beggars Receiving Alms at the Door of a House

Etching and drypoint, 1648, 166 x 128 mm., Bartsch 176 ii/ii, Hind 233 ii/ii, Nowell-Usticke 176 iv/vi. A fine, posthumous impression, possibly before the Basan editions, on laid paper with partial thread margins or trimmed on the platemark; thin spots at the top, remains of old hinges and one dot of foxing showing through to the recto. The impression is very well printed but lacks any burr on the upturned brim of the boy’s hat. An attractive and popular subject.
