Les Marais
Drypoint, 178 x 255 mm., Bliss 298 only state (?), B. N. Inv. 185, edition 23. Provenance: A. Legros personal collection.
Very fine, harmonious impression on old, greyish laid paper with full margins, signed in
pencil. It is not clear if there were two states of the print or only one, but there were 23 impressions taken in all. The image shows small trees and shrubbery in a swampy area; the landscape is flat; the subtlety is extraordinary. The print is also a demonstration of the different effects to be produced by drypoint, from the palest grey line to touches of rich, black burr.
