The Triumphal Entry of Garibaldi Into Naples

Lithograph with tan tone stone and white highlights, Béraldi 77, Bibliothèque Nationale Inventaire 320, 360 x 519 mm. Very fine impression on chine-appliqué with good margins, a small marginal crease and edge tear, neither affecting the image. The scene, one of mad rejoicing, is along the coastal road of Naples, Garibaldi riding in an open coach, preceded and followed by foot soldiers and cavalry, the population out in force and boats in the harbor waving flags. In the right distance one can just make out a plume of smoke rising from Vesuvius. The print comes from Doré's album Garibaldi et les Volontaires Italiens.
