Deux Précieux

Pen and brown ink and wash on tan wove paper, 255 x 348 mm. Blampied is famous as an etcher and lithographer, his subject matter being mostly life on and around the Channel Island of Jersey. But he was a more wide-ranging artist than his present-day reputation suggests and, perhaps unexpectedly, he was an able caricaturist. This pair of precious dandies is delineated with complete control and the utmost economy and perhaps shows as much affection as it does satire. The drawing is titled and signed.
