Drypoint, 1884, 221 x 148 mm., Ramiro 27 iii/v, B.N. Inv. 4, Exsteens 1, ex collection: Gunnar W. Lundberg (not in Lugt); GP(?) (not in L.). Very fine, rich impression with burr on chine appliqué with good margins, and with two remarques in the lower margin. This is an early work by Legrand, far more finely-detailed than his later prints. It is also something of a hoot, with those three elderly ladies, one holding a mask of a grinning Neanderthal, and the drawing of Papa on the wall, soberly contemplating the scene. Épave, literally, means wreck or derelict or even flotsam and jetsam. We thought “oddballs” was a bit kinder.
